I’ve always been curious. I love asking questions and digging deep to find the answers. They say that the quality of your questions will give you the quality you seek in the answer.

But how do we know what to ask and how do we know where the answer is and whether it is correct?

My philosophy on life (vitalism) and my love of history, guides me to ask the right question and seek the answer that makes the most sense. I just don’t scratch the surface – I want the truth.

This curiosity has led me to question the pandemic, the virus (SARS CoV-2) and the disease (COVID-19). It’s made me question the pandemic state, the advice given, and the treatments suggested. If I’m not curious I might fall for false information and ideas.

I do not source any information from mainstream media, in fact I actively avoid it. Instead, I seek out alternative media that are not paid and beholden to a sponsor, like food companies and drug companies.

I have always been interested in lifestyle (chronic) diseases, that is diseases that are caused by the life we lead, the food we choose, the exercise we do as well as our quality of sleep, breath, sunshine and connection. I know prevention is key, but I also know that chronic disease can be reversed when we give the body what it needs to be healthy. The body is resilient and, as long as the disease process has not proceeded to the point of no return, is capable of returning to health.

I understand there is a perceived difference between infectious diseases and chronic disease. One you ‘catch’, or rather your body is incapable of defending against, and the other you inflict on yourself by the lifestyle choices you make.

But if you really look at it, they are identical. If you don’t look after yourself with the ingredients for health, then your body’s immune system will be weak and you will ‘catch’ anything that is going around; cold, flu, virus, bacteria or the like. This is the reason why not everyone ‘catches’ the seasonal flu or cold or belly bug that is going around. It’s not about luck, it’s about good management of health and lifestyle and putting the work in throughout your life, from beginning to end.

In actual fact, infectious disease and chronic disease all stem from an unhealthy body due to unhealthy choices made throughout one’s life (in most cases anyway, of course there are always exceptions to the rule but that is a small percentage of the population).

The world’s governments had a golden opportunity to change the health of the world’s population. But they failed miserably. Instead of talking about the ingredients for health and a healthy immune system, they did the exact opposite.

If only the Australian states and government were as quick to shut down all takeaway junk food stores, stop the use of refined vegetable oils, margarine, white sugar, additives, GM foods, agricultural chemicals and synthetic biology food stuffs in food supplies as they are to shut down towns, lock people in their homes and make them wear masks (which have conflicting science backing their validity). Perhaps then our exponentially increasing chronic disease problem would reduce, and so would the body’s vulnerability to infectious disease.

We have become fearful of invisible microbes, the very things that make up 90% of our body’s genetic material. The very things that create metabolites in order for us to survive, including amino acids, vitamins and short-chain fatty acids. Without microbes we would be dead. A healthy microbiome supports a healthy immune system. A healthy microbiome helps resist pathological microbes, but with the sterilisation of hands every second of the day, we are breaking the barrier of protection. Yes, by all means wash hands, but do not sterilise with dubious chemicals.

Chronic disease in Australia is out of control, more so than the virus. Eighty per cent of people over the age of 65 have one or more chronic conditions, as do between 38% and 48% of our children under the age of 17. If we go back just to 1964, the chronic disease rate across the population was between 2-4%.

I feel like every time a state in Australia shuts down we are being held to ransom by our government. I’d rather that they look at the big picture. Not just at masks, cleaning hands, isolation and lockdowns, but rather at the impetus for all pandemics: poor health, poor sanitation, crowded conditions and nutrient deficiencies due to lack of food or poor food choices and/or chemical agricultural. This can be seen throughout history, including the black plague.

A fit, healthy human being has the capacity to get the original Sars CoV-2 and resist the virus without getting the disease COVID-19. A year of statistics and data around the world has shown this.

The most vulnerable are those with pre-existing chronic health conditions including heart and lung disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer.

I just don’t understand what our government can’t see. How can they not see that people are making their way to their graves faster and with chronic conditions by the things they put on their fork and the lifestyle choices they make? Until we change this, our hospitals, aged care homes, universities, school tuck shops and the like will continue to feed their customers highly refined carbohydrates and vegetable oil based commodities.

The science is there, yet it seems all science has been thrown out the window and instead the exact opposite is happening. No discussion on food and lifestyle choices but rather sanitising ourselves and our microbiome (our immune system’s best helper), isolating ourselves from other microbes that help diversify our microbiome and wearing a plastic mask which increases dangerous viral loads, by reducing oxygen and increasing multitudes of pathological microbes and other debris breathed in. And on top of that, the ecological impact of billions of single-use masks is and will continue to be catastrophic to the environment with an increase in microplastics and rubbish in our waterways and landfills.

These past 12 months have been long, and there are more people waking up to this ridiculous instruction by an unhealthy government that seems to be misguided in the directives that would change the health outcomes for all, if only they had the gumption to put in to place healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

I’ve always said if you do what the rest of the population is doing, you will be part of the statistics of chronic disease, but if you do something different, then things change. Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. I’ve never followed the dietary guidelines or much of the health advice given by our governments, I’ve always been a rebel and it’s stood me in good stead. I’m 61 years old this year and last month I hiked 100 miles in 6 days with 20kg on my back and my body was incredibly agile and fit. I don’t take medications, nor have I ever taken medications, as I feed my body the ingredients that create health. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” is worth taking to heart.

If you don’t want to be a statistic on the Australian or world registry then it would be prudent to do something different. Begin by looking at what you are eating. Read my book Lab to Table – Stop Being a Lab Rat and Start Making Better Choices for Your Table and take the action steps that are needed to change the contents of your fridge and your pantry. Food is a great starting place, then movement, sunshine, sleep, connection, breath and nature will follow as great markers for health.

When we change what we are doing, things change. At Changing Habits we are here to help you make those changes. We have organic foods to swap out in your pantry, we have food-based supplements, programs and protocols as well as education programs so that you can be part of the ripple of change for yourself, your family and your community.

Let’s start a revolution despite the world’s governments.

    Hi Cindi,

My wife and I went to a dentist today and it was clear they don’t understand the oral micro-biome and the role it plays in your health. They made us rinse with a hydrogen peroxide mouthwash prior to the examination to help ‘protect’ them from any airborne bacteria or viruses. To me this shows at best a complete lack of awareness of the protection and benefits healthy oral flora offer and the damage that removing it could do and at worst a disregard to the oral health of the client. Later today I learnt it’s a practice that was used sometime ago but I can only assume it has come back as a result of good old covid. Have you come across this before and would you have any idea of the possibility of long term impacts?

The dentist was at least pleasantly surprised to see that our teeth were perfectly clean after having not been for 4 years. A blessing we can attribute to our eating a good healthy diet. Maybe not quite Cindi O’Meara level good but still good. We have you to thank for at least part of our transition so thank you for your part in fighting the good fight and helping others find a healthier path.
    Cheers,
    Tim

      Hi Tim

Rinsing with H2O2 is not as bad as some of the anti bacterial mouth washes out there. I would expect that this is the best one they could use. Yes it will be Covid that has begun this practice again.

Thank you so much for letting me know that you have followed through on information in order to change your health and life for the best. I’m just the messenger it is you and your wife that are the inspiration.

      Thanks for your message

Hi Cyndi. You have been an absolute hero of mine for many years. I’ve been to one of your health talks in Geelong a few years ago and the last 4 Wellness Summits but I was familiar with your work long before that. I’ve also done the “Introduction to Nutrition” course and have considered doing the “Functional Nutrition Course”. This article epitomises what I believe to be the truth and I would love to share this on my Facebook page. Just wondering how long it would be allowed to stay there in our seemingly new dictatorship government, where we are not allowed to talk about anything that goes against what the government dictates. Where is the freedom of choice now? It’s being eroded away and “they” think we’re not noticing how easy it is to use fear to get a particular outcome. Thankyou so much for your passion and energy in the pursuit of good health & truth. I try to do my part, whenever possible but I’m an introvert and avoid conflict. You are amazing 🤩.

    Hello Cyndi,
I think this article is brilliant (and reinforced by much of the scientific literature coming out of the UK). Those that experience the worst outcomes with COVID have been found to be nutritionally depleted and particularly lacking in Vitamin D (sunshine). I would love to be able to repost this on my FB page. I think irrespective of one’s position on vaccination, good nutritional and lifestyle choices can only empower people on an individual basis to take back control of their own health.
