At Changing Habits, our whole foods are actually made from whole foods. So when Cyndi struggled to find the best chia seeds close to home, she went straight to their native source, South America.
Chia (Salvia Hispanica) comes from the Mayan word meaning strength. Legend has it that the Aztecs and Mayans used chia seeds to fuel performance. When we look at the nutritional profile (19.5g/100g protein, 23g/100g fibre, 17.5g/100g Omega 3 ALA essential fatty acids), it’s easy to see why.
Due to the high fibre content of chia seeds, they absorb up to 10 times their own weight in water so they can be used in cooking to replace eggs (great news for vegans and those with egg intolerances). The fibre can also help regulate bowel movements and manage constipation.
